Ikea

This is obviously a weird post because no one is ever going to visit Ikea on holiday, but indulge me. I am half Swedish and have a freakish obsession with going to Ikea. This is the only place that my dad brought me to that was vaguely Swedish. The other Swedish place that I have an affinity with is H&M and I wrote countless emails for them to come to Singapore as a teenager and in my early 20s.

I used to spend afternoons browsing through Ikea catalogues. I am not sure if any of you still remember having free time after exams and the results were released, we still had a couple of days of school and the teacher would allow you to play games in class. Most people brought UNO and connect 4. I created a made-up game in which we were all architects and we had to design a house with Ikea furniture. It caught on as a game, or at least I thought so. My fellow classmates who sat next to me (A & YY) and I would spend hours designing and imagining how our house would look like while the rest played UNO. It was good fun. The Ikea theme carried on into medical school when my clinical group was posted to Alexandra Hospital and we would spend our free time in between tutorial between a computer game (Diner Dash) and Ikea. We would take our Ikea cards and drink the free coffee and eat chicken wings there.

Obviously, when I moved to London, I was excited to make a pilgrimage to the Ikea here. Unfortunately, they are BLOODY far away from central london. We finally went there when we had to buy some furniture unlike when you are in Singapore and you simply go there because you want to eat some cheap wings. The plus point is that their servings are HUGE. Check out that salmon plate and that was 2 pounds only. I had eaten about 75% of the salmon by the time that I remembered to take the picture. They had ribs instead of chicken wings. I was disappointed to not get my wings, but damn, the ribs were also finger licking good.  This might call for another email campaign.
